What Kenya’s Project Management Market Actually Looks Like
Kenya’s demand for credentialed project professionals is growing at a rate that the current supply cannot match. A November 2025 report by Business Daily Africa, citing the Project Management Institute’s global workforce analysis, projects that Kenya’s need for project management professionals will grow between 48 and 63% by 2035 — from approximately 150,000 professionals today to between 223,000 and 247,000. The infrastructure commitment backing that demand is documented: Kenya’s FY2025-26 Budget allocated KES 504.6 billion to energy, infrastructure, and communications alone. The gap between that figure and what an uncertified project coordinator typically earns is not the result of seniority alone. Certification changes the conversation at the hiring stage, at the promotion stage and at the salary negotiation stage — not because a certificate teaches things experience cannot, but because it provides the documented proof that experience, on its own, does not.
What the Exam Actually Covers
Project+ PK0-005 organizes its content across four domains that map directly to what project management work looks like in practice. Project Management Concepts covers the foundational principles of scope, schedule, cost, risk and governance that underpin any methodology. Project Life Cycle Phases covers the actual stages of a project from initiation through closure, with both Waterfall and Agile approaches represented — making it relevant across Kenya’s construction, technology, NGO and public sector environments, all of which operate differently. Communication and Change Management covers stakeholder engagement, escalation protocols and the change control processes that separate a managed project from a reactive one. Tools and Documentation covers the practical artefacts of project delivery — charters, risk registers, status reports and the software that professional project managers use to track them. The exam runs 90 minutes, covers up to 90 questions including performance-based scenarios and requires a passing score of 710 out of 900, according to CompTIA’s official certification page.
One important update that any candidate should know before enrolling: before October 1, 2025, Project+ was a lifetime certification requiring no renewal. According to FlashGenius’s certification guide published December 10, 2025, that changed — new earners now enter CompTIA’s continuing education programme, meaning the certification requires renewal every three years. The practical effect is the same as CCNA’s renewal cycle: it keeps certified professionals current rather than allowing qualifications to become outdated in a field where project environments, tools, and methodologies evolve continuously.
