KNEC - DIPLOMA PROGRAMS

  • DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (DICT)

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

    This Diploma Course has been developed to cater for specialization in ICT. The diploma is divided into three modules:

    • Diploma in information communication technology Module I
    • Diploma in information communication technology Module II
    • Diploma in information communication technology Module III

    The course encourages the learner to be versed with the current trends in ICT and it equips the learner with Knowledge, skills and attitudes to perform system operations, system analysis, design and development besides performing network system and support duties.

    OBJECTIVES

    The course is intended to equip the trainee with knowledge to:

    • Perform Systems operations duties.
    • Perform System analysis, design and development duties.
    • Perform network and system support duties.

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    To be eligible for the admission into the Diploma in Information Communication technology (DICT), a candidate must satisfy any ONE of the following academic qualifications:

    • Passed relevant Craft course in Information Communication Technology OR
    • An aggregate grade of C- in K.C.S.E. OR
    • Any other equivalent qualifications approved by the Kenya National Examination Council.

    DURATION

    Two Academic Years (18 Months) + Industrial Attachment (4 Months)

  • DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

    Diploma in Business Management is designed to equip the trainee with relevant knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable him or her to perform administrative duties as a middle level manager in an organization. The course is concerned with the application of management principles in human resource and business performance evaluation and implementing procedures and processes related to Business Management.

    OBJECTIVES

    • Recognize the role played by different departments in an organization.
    • Use tools of analysis in decision making in an organization.
    • Communicate effectively in day to day business management activities.
    • Apply the legal aspects in the management of an organization.
    • Demonstrate knowledge on emerging trends and issues in an organization management.

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    Trainee entering this course should have any of the following minimum requirements:

    1. Passed relevant Craft course in Business Management OR
    2. Passed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an average of C-
    3. Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

    DURATION

    Two Academic Years (18 Months) + Industrial Attachment (4 Months)

  • DIPLOMA IN ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS (POWER)

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

    Diploma in Electrical and Electronics (Power Option) is designed to equip the trainee with relevant knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable him or her to perform supervisory duties as a middle level manager in an organization. The course is concerned with Electrical power generating and distribution, skills development in large firms (Electrical Wiring), and development of skills for training centres, and Electronics Maintenance.

    OBJECTIVES

    By the end of the course, the trainee should be able to:

    • Develop and implement a proper wiring and installation plan at a supervisory level.
    • Use of proper procedures in conducting routine repairs and maintenance.
    • Acquire Technicians/Supervisors skills in Electrical power generating/distribution industry.
    • Develop a Self-employed attitude in construction industry (Electrical Wiring).

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    Trainees entering this course should have any of the following minimum requirements:

    • Passed a relevant Craft course in Electrical and Electronics Technology OR
    • Passed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an average of C- Minus OR
    • Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

    DURATION

    Two Academic Years (18 Months) + Industrial Attachment (4 Months)

KNEC - CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

  • ARTISAN CERTIFICATE IN STOREKEEPING

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

    This course is intended to equip the student with the knowledge, skills and attitude which are responsive to the challenging needs in the business field. The course will permit the student to work in a professional field to kick start a career or venture into self-employment.
    During the course the trainee shall be exposed to StoreKeeping Skills, Basic Concepts in Organizations operations, and Book-Keeping.

    OBJECTIVES

    By the end of the course, the trainee should be able to:

    • Develop and implement store records planning
    • Maintain good business recording books
    • Use practical skills to provide clerical services in an office setting.
    • Good grasp of basic competency skills in English and Mathematics
    • To progress further into Craft, Diploma and Higher Diploma Studies.

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    To be eligible for admission into the Artisan Certificate in Store-Keeping, a candidate must satisfy any ONE of the following academic qualifications:

    • A pass in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an average of D- (minus) or below.
    • Any other equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

    DURATION

    One Academic Year (6 Months) + Industrial Attachment (2 Months)

  • ARTISAN CERTIFICATE IN ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

    This course is intended to equip the student with the knowledge, skills and attitude which are responsive to the challenging needs in the technical field. The course will permit the student to work in a professional field and kick start a career or venture into self-employment.
    During the course the trainee shall be exposed to Installation of electrical equipment, Servicing, Repair and Maintenance of electronic equipment.

    OBJECTIVES

    By the end of the course, the trainee should be able to:

    • Develop and implement a proper wiring and installation plan.
    • Understand the different equipments and tools required as an electrician.
    • Use proper procedures in conducting routine repairs and maintenance.
    • Good grasp of basic competency skills in English and Mathematics.

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    To be eligible for admission into the Artisan Certificate in Electrical Installation, a candidate must satisfy any ONE of the following academic qualifications:

    • A pass in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an average of D- (minus) or below.
    • Any other equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

    DURATION

    One Academic Year (6 Months) + Industrial Attachment (2 Months)

  • ARTISAN CERTIFICATE IN SALESMANSHIP

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

    This course is intended to equip the student with the knowledge, skills and attitude which are responsive to the challenging needs in the business field. The course will permit the student to work in a professional field to kick start a career or venture into self-employment.
    During the course the trainee shall be exposed to Sales Techniques, Basic Concepts in Organizations operations, and Book-Keeping.

    By the end of the course, the trainee should be able to:

    • Develop and implement sales plan techniques

    • Use practical skills to provide clerical services in an office setting.

    To be eligible for admission into the Artisan Certificate in Salesmanship, a candidate must satisfy any ONE of the following academic qualifications:

    • A pass in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an average of D- (minus) or below.
    • Any other equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

    DURATION

    One Academic Year (6 Months) + Industrial Attachment (2 Months)

  • CRAFT CERTIFICATE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

    This course is intended to equip the trainee with the knowledge, skills and attitude which are responsive to the challenging needs in the computing industry. The course will allow the graduate to work in a salaried employment or self-employment. During the course the trainee shall be exposed to Computer Programming, User Support, Computer Application, and Operating System.

    OUTCOMES

    By the end of the course, the trainee should be able to:

    • Install computer hardware and software
    • Maintain computer hardware and software
    • Use programming skills to provide solutions to existing problems.
    • Assemble and disassemble computers
    • Troubleshoot a range of PCs and associated peripherals  

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    To be eligible for the admission into the Craft Certificate in Information Technology, a candidate must satisfy any ONE of the following academic qualifications:

    1. A pass in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education( KCSE) with an average of D (plain)
    2. Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

  • CRAFT CERTIFICATE IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

    The course is intended to equip the trainee with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable him or her to perform clerical duties in an organization. The course is concerned with application of Business Management Principle, solving financial and business related problems including concepts of dynamism and its influences on business activities.

    OUTCOMES

    2. Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
  • CRAFT CERTIFICATE IN ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS (POWER)

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

    The course is intended to equip the trainee with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable him or her to perform advanced electrical installation duties. The program focuses on Electrical power generating and distribution, skills development in construction firms (Electrical Wiring), and development of skills for training centres, and Electronics Maintenance.

    OBJECTIVES

    By the end of the course, the trainee should be able to:

    • Develop and implement a proper wiring and installation plan at an advanced level.
    • Understand the different equipments and tools required as an electrician in an industry setup.
    • Use of proper procedures in conducting routine repairs and maintenance.
    • Be able to share knowledge and skills relevant to the industry through hands-on practice.

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    To be eligible for the admission into the Craft Certificate in Electrical and Electronics Technology (Power Option), a candidate must satisfy any ONE of the following academic qualifications:

    • A pass in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an average of D (plain). OR
    • Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC)

    DURATION

    One Academic Year (12 Months) + Industrial Attachment (2 Months)
